Let it Snow!!

Hey all!! I know its been awhile since I’ve posted, but as I say with quite a few things, if you have time to talk about it, you must not be actually doing much. Here at the Pi Pi chapter headquarters, we’ve been doing quite a bit. The can drive was wonderfully successful, in fact, the current can count is over 600 (and we only have about half of them out of the office). Recycling is going well, as is the book club, and other events.
Now the third phase has begun. We are in the process of writing our hallmarks, which document all that we have done over the past year and all that we have learned from what we have accomplished. Stay tuned, plenty of volunteer opportunities will arise soon enough. Fundraiser season is coming soon after, and before we blink, this school year will be over.
Last semester we bid farewell to a beloved member Gene who has transferred to his next school.

There are two things I would like to announce before I close this post, as I think they are rather important. Please, anyone who has not subscribed to our email updates please do, they are vital in getting you all the information you need. Secondly, subscribe to this blog!! In only a few clicks, you can boost our numbers, and show us that your listening.

Until next time,

Latest happenings

It seems I have gotten behind on the updates, as we have been rolling right along on our projects. many many many things have been going on for us, and sometimes their just isn’t enough hours in the day.

First off, those of you who are near by, stop by our office, I’d love to hear from you, collaborate ideas all for a greater cause. We are gathering canned goods for First Light, a women shelter who is in desperate need for food for the holidays. We gather canned goods all year round, but we would really like people to come out and give. If you are out of state, or in state and not a part of Jeff state, just email me at e.layton@hotmail.com, I know I speak for all of our officers when I say we would love the support. During your wonderful holiday, please remember those who are just happy to have a meal and a warm place to sleep.

We are also gathering aluminum, plastic, clothes, and newspapers all in the name of recycling for a better world.

Finally, we are continuing our book club, though it will be held on the LAST Monday in November due to the holidays, it will be on Dorian Gray.

Meeting

We had a very wonderful and active meeting this Thursday, which proved very productive. We will be hosting a banned book club event at the Trussville library at 4pm on September the 27th. I look forward to everyone being there. We are also looking forward to the Honors in Action regional conference as we continue our research towards our hallmark papers.

As far as donations go, we are having an awesome turn out for canned goods, recyclables, books, and clothes for the Lovelady foundation.
The blood drive went very well, and we look forward to seeing them in about 18 weeks, times and dates will be posted.

And We Begin Again

As the next semester of school begins I’d like to place a few reminders in this entry as well as wish everyone a great year and a high GPA.

We have a meeting at 1pm on August the 19th (a thursday) for all Pi Pi chapter officers and any members that would like to attend, it will be an introductory to the year and a scheduling to most of our events. We hope to have a lot of projects not only for our college, but for our community as well.

For our subscribers and readers: continue to check on our Events page on the blog, it’s changed rather frequently and has all of our latest information on.

Banned Book Club

We had a nice cozy group for our first ever book club, and as such had a wonderful discussion brought back and forth. I hope to begin posting the notes of the meeting as soon as possible so we may begin filling in the individuals who are not able to attend for one reason or another. Next month will be Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll and to say the least we are very excited.

As always, I feel the need to ask any individual no matter whether you are a member, officer, or just someone interested in what we do to subscribe to our blog. It only takes a minute to do, but it makes all the difference to us. We loving seeing that people genuinely care about the work we do, and the freedom of speech as well as the many other projects we host.

Meeting

This week proved productive as we discussed adding a love lady box onto the campus, having a sit in protest against books that have been banned, and finishing the final touches of the book club that will be hosted this Monday at 6pm. We are very excited and cannot wait to see you all there!

We are also speaking at three new student orientations spreading the word about Phi Theta Kappa and all the honor society does for student as well as what all the members do for the community. We love to see all the new faces and potential for success in their eyes.

Dates have been set and will be posted soon as to when the blood drives will take place on the Jeff State campus, all are welcome to attend.

New Meeting

The new meeting was held on July the 14th, and several things were discussed. We talked about competitive edge, and all we absorbed from working through the first level. We discussed study questions in our honors study topic as well each of us writing about two questions. Banned book week was also brought up in efforts to incorporate other organizations into our purpose for the year. We discovered http://www.bannedbooksweek.org/ We also donated 6 large boxes of books to the Trussville Public Library, and over 8 bags of clothes to the Lovelady foundation. We are very excited about contributing to our community.

The newest edition to the blog is in fact this decades top 100 banned and challenged books. Any book that is brought to the book club is recommended to come from this list.

New Event! Banned Book Club

In the spirit of our new honors study topic, our officers decided it would be best to show censorship through history and how it still effects us today in regards to challenging and banning books. These book clubs that will meet the 4th Monday of every month at 6:00pm. The meetings will be held at the Trussville Public Library and all who are interested may join in. The event is free. Watch the “event” page to see what our first meeting will be themed and what kind of book you should bring. Everyone should invite their friends, the more the merrier. Pi Pi chapter members will gain points towards becoming an alpha member and towards a free t-shirt if they are present to the event.

Our last meeting was Wednesday, June 23, 2010.

All officers need to complete a college fish and competetive edge profile.
